Michael keaton
What hides the smile of Michael Keaton? This unanswered question is what has allowed the popular actor to give life to the Batman, and to characters as disturbing as Bitelchus and various psychopaths.
Michael Keaton was born in Coraopolis (Pennsylvania) on September 5, 1951, and is the youngest of a family of seven siblings. In reality, he was baptized as Michael John Douglas, but he was forced to change his stage name so as not to coincide with that of the famous son of Kirk Douglas .
Between the years 1982 and 1990 he was married to the actress Carolina McWilliams, with whom he had his son Sean Maxwell Douglas.
He debuted as an actor in the late 1970s, appearing in various comedies. After making the leap to the cinema, during his early years he was known as a comic actor for his participation in films such as Night Shift in 1982 or Bitelchus in 1988, undoubtedly one of the films for which he is most remembered.
During the following years and, until the end of the nineties, Michael Keaton would live his golden years, in which he made his most outstanding works and touched different genres: from the action of A good policeman , to the classic aftertaste of Much Ado About Nothing . He also dared with darker roles like the one he played in Suddenly a Stranger and with tear-jerking dramas like My Life .
But, during those years, he would play one of the most iconic roles of his career, Batman (1989) , in what was the most acclaimed film adaptation of the Batman comics to date. However, when Michael Keaton was announced as the cast to play Bruce Wayne, Warners received thousands of letters from disgruntled fans who believed he would not measure up.
He finally made Batman (1989) and Batman Returns , both directed by Tim Burton . However, he turned down an offer of fifteen million dollars to play the third installment, since he did not agree with the script. In fact, his idea for a third film was to go back to the origins of the hero, just like Christopher Nolan did in Batman Begins . On this subject he recently stated: “That is exactly what Chris Nolan did. He did exactly what I said he had to do.”
Another character that he brought to life in two productions was that of Ray Nicolette. Interestingly, he played that character in two different movies that weren’t a sequel. The first of these was Jackie Brown by Quentin Tarantino , in 1997 and he would repeat with an uncredited cameo a year later in A Very Dangerous Romance , by Steven Soderbergh , both adaptations of two novels by Elmore Leonard .
Since the beginning of the new century, he has lavished himself as a television actor, where he has garnered several awards. He was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2003 for his work in Fire Over Baghdad and, in 2008, he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in the miniseries The Company . His film roles over the past decade have mostly been in supporting roles, though there are exceptions such as the haunting White Noise and his directorial debut, the notable Knight and Assassin .
He has also worked as a dubber for animated films such as Cars and Toy Story 3 , as well as the video game “Call of Duty: Blacks Ops II”. In addition, he collaborated in the writing of the book “Astream: American writers on Fly Fishing”, published in 2012, since he is a great fan of fishing.
