Born on April 2, 1977 in Heidelberg (Germany), Michael Fassbender is the son of a German and an Irish woman. Indeed, his family moved to Ireland when he was two years old. Passionate about music, from a very young age he learned to play the piano, the guitar and the accordion.
He ended up graduating in dramatic art, from the Central School of Speech and Drama. Although he debuted with the series Hearts and Bones , he was better received by his second television work, Blood Brothers , Steven Spielberg ‘s World War II series , in which he played a sergeant.
He then lavished himself on television, and achieved some repercussion in the Anglo-Saxon world thanks to a television advertisement, in which he swam from England to New York, with the aim of asking a friend for forgiveness.
Fassbender was made to beg for the big screen, since he did not shoot movies until five years after the Spielberg series, when he debuted with 300 , an adaptation of the Frank Miller comic , where he attracted attention as Stelios, a tough Spartan warrior.
His most elaborate role is possibly the one he played in Hunger , where he was Bobby Sands, an IRA prisoner who went on hunger strike. The actor lost a lot of kilos to make the character believable, and he weighed 59 kilos at the end of shooting.
His career was completely changed by Quentin Tarantino , who called him to replace Simon Pegg , who had given up participating in Inglourious Basterds due to scheduling problems. He thus inherited the role of Lieutenant Archie Hicox, a movie buff who is commissioned to meet with an actress.
After titles like Fish Tank , Centurion or the failed western Jonah Hex , Fassbender has shot a very popular film, X-Men: First Generation , a prequel to the saga that adapts the adventures of the Marvel superheroes. He faces the challenge of playing the powerful mutant Magneto, the character played by the great Ian McKellen , in his youth, when he was still friends with Charles Xavier.
Highly sought after in recent times, he has shot David Cronenberg ‘s A Dangerous Method , Haywire , with Steven Soderberg and Ridley Scott ‘s science fiction film Prometheus . He has also given rise to his character as a sex addict in Shame , awarded in Venice.
Fassbender was dating the attractive actress Leasi Andrews ( The Master of Disguise ). After breaking up with her, he has been linked to actress Zöe Kravitz, his co-star in X-Men: First Class , but he completely denies it.
