It was previously rumored that the billionaire businessman and the former chairman of Forte Oil Plc, Femi Otedola acquired a 10 percent stake in First Bank of Nigeria with N30 billion worth of shares, making him the bank’s single largest shareholder.
Debunking the news the Nigerian Exchange Ltd (NGX) stated on their website that Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale was confirmed as the largest single shareholder of the company.
The stock website noted that Mr. Hassan-Odukale held a cumulative 5.36 percent stake in the company, while Otedola holds a total of 5.07 percent.
Further breakdown of the data shows that Hassan-Odukale’s direct interest in the bank is 26,231,887 units while he indirectly owns 1,897,280,212 units in the financial Holding Company.
Mr. Tunde Hassan-Odukale was born in 1964 and is a graduate of the University of London and City University, London. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Pure Mathematics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Science.
In April 2021 he was announced as the Chairman of First Bank replacing Ibukun Awosika, the former chairman of the company. Prior to his appointment as chairman, Odukale has been a Non-Executive Director from March 1992 to January 2020,
He is also on the board of directors of various blue-chip companies, which includes Digital Jewels Limite, Total Health Trust Limited, and other Leadway Assurance Subsidiaries
His executive management experience spans over 21 years and includes Asset Management, Finance, IT, and Life Insurance Operations. He is happily married with a child. He loves playing tennis, reading and seeing new places.
