Meet Lateef Adedimeji, The Popular Nigerian Actor

Lateef Adedimeji is a popular Nigerian actor. He gained popularity with his first major role in a 2013 movie titled Kudi Klepto, and has since acted in several Nollywood movies.

He was also recently in the news over his marriage with Adebimpe Oyebade, another Nollywood actor on the 18th of December 2021, after they both consistently denied being an item, despite fans long suspicion that the duo was in a relationship.

Childhood and Education

Lateef Adedimeji was born on the 1st of February 1986 in Isolo, Lagos State although a native of Abeokuta Ogun State. He began his primary education at Ire Akari Primary School, Isolo, Lagos State,  and furthered at Ilamoye Grammar School Okota Lagos State for his secondary school education.

He furthered his education at the prestigious Olabisi Onabanjo University, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.

Acting Career

Lateef Adedimeji began his acting career at the very age of 15, while in secondary school. He was picked by a Non-governmental organization (NGO) (Community Life Project) to serve as an informer and counsellor during an HIV/AIDS campaign. His role was to educate the general public on sexual-related issues and human rights by creating video content in which he acted.

Prior to that, he had enrolled at a performance studio workshop at Onikan Lagos State where his writing, acting and dancing skills were developed. Lateef who is also a screenwriter however went into professional acting when he joined Orisun TV in 2007.  Fans know him for playing the role of an emotional character that cries often.

He has since then featured in several  Award-winning Nigerian films over the years. In 2016, he won 2016 Best of Nollywood Awards for Best Actor in a Lead Role (Yoruba).  In 2015, he was nominated for City People Entertainment Awards for the 2015 Most Promising Actor of the year.

Lateef Adedimeji is widely confused to be related to popular Nigerian actor Odunlade Adekola due to their uncanny resemblance and sense of humour. He was however awarded the face of Nollywood during the E Nigeria Newspaper Night of Honour in 2021.

Personal life.

Prior to his recent marriage to Adebimpe Oyebade, Lateef Adedimeji has been caught in several relationship controversies. It was first rumoured that the actor was in a romantic relationship with Bukunmi Oluwashina, a Nollywood actress.

The rumour of the relationship circulated after a bold picture of them together surfaced in the media. However, both parties later debunked the reports, saying the picture was from a movie set. The rumour eventually settled after  Bukunmi got married to her long-time boyfriend in 2020.

There were rumours in 2018 that the Nollywood actor had fathered a child with US-based Yoruba actress, Oyinkansola Elebuibon.  Oyinkansola however debunked the rumour, emphasizing that she has no child or relationship with the actor.

There were also reports in the past that the actor was previously married and had a first wife before his recent marriage to Adebimpe Oyebade. These reports were however confirmed to be untrue.

Relationship with Adebimpe Oyebade

Recall that we stated that they were fan’s suspicion that  Lateef Adedimeji and Adebimpe Oyebade were involved in a romantic relationship after starring as lovers in a romantic movie in 2019.

The rumours intensified in 2020 with some reports even suggesting that both Nollywood stars are already married after they began sharing pictures of themselves in matching outfits. In July 2020 especially, they both shared a picture of themselves in wedding outfits.

The duo however denied the reports of them dating. They both affirmed that the pictures were just advertisements for a clothing line with Adebimpe maintaining that she and Lateef are good friends and colleagues in different relationships.

She also made it known that she can’t get engaged to someone in the spotlight and being rumoured to be in a relationship at one time or the other is one of the prices that come with being a celebrity.

Lateef on the other hand also denied any possible romantic link with the actress, saying one needs to take his time not to marry wrong as an actor. It wasn’t until November 2021 that Lateef Adedimeji finally came open about his romantic involvement with Adebimpe Oyebade and even their intention to get married.

The duo however got married in an elegant traditional ceremony on the 18th of December 2021, and an Islamic wedding (Nikkai) ceremony on the 22nd of December 2021. The wedding was graced with Nollywood celebrities such as Toyin Abraham, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Nkechi Blessing, Mercy Aigbe, Adunni Ade, Wumi Toriola, Femi Adebayo, Yetunde Bakare, Odunlade Adekola and Tunde Kelani.

In a recent interview, Adedimeji claimed that he only started dating Mo Bimpe in March 2021. The actor stated that rumours that they were dating began as a result of their closeness which was due to their friendship and the number of works they had done together. According to him, both of them never saw the relationship coming until recently.
