MEET KEMI ADETIBA, THE KING OF BOYS MOVIE PRODUCER

She was born in Lagos on January 8, 1980, to Mr. and Mrs. Adetiba. Dele Adetiba, her father, is a broadcasting and advertising veteran, and Mayen Adetiba, her mother, is a civil engineer.

Ekiti is her father’s home state, and Efik is her mother’s.

Kemi Adetiba graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in law.

Career

Her media career began when her father, an advertising and broadcast veteran, introduced her to the entertainment industry.

She began her career as a radio host with Rhythem 93.7fm, where she became the voice of popular shows including “Soul’d Out” and “Sunday at the Seaside.”

She then transitioned from being a radio host to appearing on television shows. She hosted the Maltina Dance All competition for three seasons in a row and also featured in Mnet’s, and Soundcity television show.

She went to New York Film Academy to study more about the acting industry in order to develop her career.

In 2009, she produced “Across a Bloodied Ocean,” a short film that was played live at the National Black Arts Festival and the 2009 Pan African Film Festival.

She produced The Wedding Party, a blockbuster film that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2016, King of Boys 1 in 2018, and King of Boys 2 in 2021.

  • Five years in a row, The Future Nigeria Awards have nominated her for the On-Air-Personality of the Year honor.
  • In 2011, she was the first double nominee for Screen Producer/Director of the Year at The Future Nigeria Awards.
  • Nomination for Best Music Video at the 2010 SoundCity Awards; Banky W’s “Lagos Party,” directed by Kemi Adetiba, received nominations for Best Editing and Best Male Video at the 2010 SoundCity Awards.
  • With a homage in the shape of a write-up, Bez’s “More You” garnered her International Critical Acclaim.
  • In 2014, she was nominated for a Headies award for Best Music Video Director of the Year.
