Favour Ofili is a native of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. She was born on December 31, 2002.
The Nigerian-born athlete is a specialist in the 200 and 400 meters sprints. At such a young age, she holds the Nigerian record as the first female athlete to run under the 22 seconds barrier with a time of 21.96.
Ofili’s career began way before she clocked 16. At 16, she represented Nigeria at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohoma, partaking in the 4 × 100 m and 4 × 400 m relays. She also led the Nigerian team to a Gold Medal win in the women’s 4 x 400 m relay at the African Games. This was Ofili’s second senior medal.
The youngster, in an interview with olympics.com, noted that her career took a great turn when she “relocated to the States”, having earned a scholarship at Louisiana State University (LSU). Despite facing early disappointments in her career as a sprinter, Ofili is known to always bounce back and come back stronger as seen in her records and interview statements.
Currently, the Gold medalist is a competitor at LSU. She held the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record with a 21.96 time in the 200m until she had her record broken by Abby Steiner.
