MC Jin is an American actor, rapper, and songwriter. He is of Hakka descent. The rapper was born in Florida, USA but also spent his time in Hong Kong in the early days of his career. He is the first solo Asian-American rapper to have the opportunity to register with an established record label in the United States. He had started his career in 2001 by performing freestyles and then recording them so he could make money by selling them.

- In 2008, MC Jin recorded a song for Barack Obama’s 2012 US presidential campaign. He even performed the song at a rally in Square Park in New York City.
- He began his rap career by freestyling and recording those freestyles on the mixtapes he sold in the hip-hop clubs, on the streets, and anywhere he could find a willing buyer.
- While hitting the streets, Kamel Pratt, who became his manager, noticed his talent and they later worked together to form Crafty Plugz Entertainment.
- He got his first big break after being invited to the BET show, 106 & Park to participate in their segment called Freestyle Friday , in which local rappers fought battles.
- On Freestyle Friday, he managed to win 7 consecutive rap fights which led to his induction into the Freestyle Friday Hall of Fame.
- He also announced on the day he was inducted into the Hall of Fame that he had signed a record deal with Ruff Ryder’s label.
- After disappointing album sales, he announced he was retiring in May 2005. He even recorded a single I Give Up to make it clear that he was exploring other possibilities.
- However, he later re-entered the rap scene, performing under the new stage name The Emcee.
- In the summer of 2008 he decided to move to Hong Kong for three months to promote his first Cantonese album. ABC . The album was recorded in 2006, but in 2008 he found an interested party at Universal Records HK.
- As he began to have more success in the Hong Kong hip hop scene and reached celebrity status, he extended his stay in Hong Kong until 2012.
- In 2017 he took part in The Rap of China, which is a Chinese music reality show. He adopted the alias HipHopMan for the show, which made him famous in mainland China.
