Maury Chaykin
Maury Chaykin was a secondary actor who, throughout his 35-year career, shot a hundred and a half films. He was one of the regular actors in Atom Egoyan’s movies, although his face is familiar to the general public from great hits like Dances with Wolves . The actor passed away on Tuesday, his birthday, due to kidney complications.
Born on July 27, 1949 in the New York borough of Brooklyn, Maury Chaykin was the son of an American and a Canadian. On his mother’s side he is the nephew of George Bloomfield , a prolific Canadian film and television director. After graduating from high school he moved to Toronto, where he took up permanent residence.
Chaykin began his Canadian film career with a prominent supporting role in the 1975 drama Me . He soon made the leap to Hollywood, with titles such as Harry and Son , War Games , Twins Strike Twice , My Cousin Vinny , Sommersby and The Trap .
He made four films with Diane Keaton : Mrs. Soffel , Northern Lights , Plan B and Crossed Over . Atom Egoyan made him one of the protagonists of The Liquidator , one of the Canadian films with the greatest international impact. He would repeat under him with a small uncredited role in Exotica , and also in Sweet Hereafter and Adoration . For his work on Whale Music he earned a Genie Award, the Canadian equivalent of an Oscar. He was also a prolific actor in television series such as El entourage .
Divorced from producer and screenwriter Ilana Frank, he joined actress Susannah Hoffmann, with whom he had a daughter.
