MATT STONE AND TREY PARKER
Stone first became interested in film and music as a child. After graduating from Boulder High School, he enrolled to study at the University of Colorado. It was at the University of Colorado that the two friends Matt Stone and Trey Parker met.
MATT STONE MOVIES
Stone, Ian Hardin, Parker and McHugh started a production company called Avenging Conscience in 1992. They had an idea and developed a three-minute trailer for a fictional film called Alferd Packer: The Musical. The trailer caused a stir among the students of the school. This led the president and founder of the university’s film department, Virgil Grillo, to convince the quartet to turn it into a feature film.
Parker wrote the screenplay for the film, creating an Oklahoma-style musical! Which included up to ten original show tunes. Shooting the film was no walk in the park. The band had to fundraise from a friend and family, which they did in the amount of $125,000. Parker became the lead character in the film playing the role of Juan Schwartz. He was also the director and co-producer of the film.
Alferd Packer: The Musical premiered in Boulder in October 1993. The band struggled so hard they even submitted the film to the Sundance Film Festival and they didn’t respond. They even had to rent a limo to transport each cast and crew member to the theater entrance on the red carpet. The festival was at least a relief because in addition to the industry ties they established there, MTV also did a short feature on The Big Picture regarding the film.
LAWYER MATT STONE
Following the film’s success, the entire band minus Hardin moved to Los Angeles. During their stay, they met a lawyer from the William Morris agency. The attorney was impressed with their work so he decided to put them in touch with producer Scott Rudin. They returned home very happy because they had killed several birds with one stone. By the end of the day, they had acquired a lawyer, an agent, and a script contract.

FILMS BY MATT STONE AND TREY PARKER
Matt and Parker approached Brian Graden with a production contract for the network. He declined the deal, however, but then wrote a personal check for a few thousand dollars to produce a video greeting card. He wanted to deliver these cards to friends because it was Christmas season. Little did they know the film would be a sequel to their previous short film Jesus vs. Frosty.
David Zucker, contacted the duo to produce a 15 minute short film for Seagram. He wanted to show this video at a party for their acquisition of Universal Studios. Due to a misunderstanding, Parker and Stone improvised the film just an hour before it was shot. They created it as a parody of instructional videos from the 1950s.
VOICE OF MATT STONE
During the time between filming the pilots for Time Warped, Parker wrote the script for a film titled Orgazmo, which later went into production. After production and screening, the film was purchased in its own right for $1 million by independent distributor October Films. It has been rated NC-17 by the Motion Picture Association of America. This rating led to the film’s poor box office performance.
The duo were “95% sure” that Democratic candidate Al Gore would win. Hence, they titled the show Everybody Loves Al. The main goal was to parody sitcom tropes, such as a lovable main character, the sassy maid, and the wacky neighbor. Production on the film was put on hold due to confusion over who would be president.
Comedy Central officially canceled the series in August 2001 to cut costs; Stone reportedly said, “A very expensive show on a small cable network…its economics were just not going to work out.” Comedy Central continued the show in reruns, deeming it a creative and critical success.
MATT STONEHOUSE
The creators of the movie South, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have built a huge retreat in Steamboat Springs. This despite the duo’s irreverence and disregard for the idealisms and politics the two reveal on their show. What is more interesting is the fact that they had this idea in mind but never actualized it. In order to make their dreams come true, they built a $5 million mansion.
