1. Matt Hardy’s mother died of brain cancer in 1987 when he was 12 years old.
2. He played baseball through high school.
3. Matt was a bright student at school and was in fact the nominee of the Morehead Award which is a scholarship to any university in North Carolina. In fact, he scored 1330 on his SATs.
4. He dropped out of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte after a year as an engineer to raise his younger brother Jeff Hardy due to his father’s illness.
5. His first paying job was a car wash.
6. In 1992, Matt, along with his brother Jeff and other friends, formed a wrestling federation called The Trampoline Wrestling Federation .
7. He initially took the ring name “High Voltage”, but since the name was already taken, he changed it to “Surge”.
