Matt Barrie has been an American sportscaster for ESPN’s SportsCenter since 2019, although he joined the network in March 2013. He is now the host of ESPN College’s pregame and halftime shows. He began his journalism career in 2001 when he joined WJFW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin until 2002, reporting on the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. From 2003 to 2005, he became a sportscaster/reporter at KSWO-TV in Lawton, Oklahoma, reporting on Big 12 Championship and BCS National Championship games in 2003 and 2004.
He then worked as a sports anchor for WLTX-TV from 2005 to 2008 in Columbia, South Carolina. For the network, he co-hosted the show Matt and Tim on the top-rated radio show The Team. He had also anchored the network’s broadcast, including Friday-Monday sports broadcasts and the weekly Saturday Night Blitz covering live from the Independence Bowl in 2005 and the Liberty Bowl in 2006.
In 2008, he joined KXAS (NBC5) as an anchor/reporter until 2013. During that time, he won several awards, including five Lonestar Emmy Awards (in the Sports Reporter and Sportscast category, and the ‘ Salute to Excellence’ NABJ Award). In 2013, he joined ESPN and began co-hosting SportsCenter’s midday ET weekdays with Sage Steele . Subsequently, he became a studio host for ESPN College Football Saturdays in 2019 as well as occasional announced college football games.
