- Mase didn’t know his father growing up.
- Mase’s mother raised him alone.
- He had a very rough childhood, growing up in a crime-ridden neighborhood. Eight of his 10 childhood friends were reportedly killed, while the remaining two were sent to prison.
- When he was 3 or 4 years old, his mother moved her family from Jacksonville to Harlem in New York City to escape from her abusive husband.
- Mase spent most of his early teens engaging in bogus activities like gambling and street racing. He also cut school classes.
- Concerned about his appearance, his mother sent him to Florida at the age of 13. However, when he turned 15, he returned to New York.
- He was signed to Bad Boy Records by Sean Combs after rapping for Combs at the Hard Rock Cafe. The record deal was valued at $250,000.
- During an April 1999 radio interview, he announced that he retired from rapping because he felt he was leading people to hell. He also declared that it was time for him to serve God.
- He returned to rap in the summer of 2004 with the release of the single Welcome Back.
