Martina Gusmann

He has managed to form a perfect tandem professionally and personally. First as a producer, then also as an actress, Martina Gusman is the undisputed muse of Pablo Trapero.

Martina Gusman was born on October 28, 1978 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As an actress, she has been trained with the acting teacher Carlos Gandolfo, and she also studied Combined Arts at the University of Buenos Aires.

Her work in the cinema has been developed almost entirely alongside her husband, the director Pablo Trapero . In 2002, she created the Matanza Cine company with him, and initially she performed production tasks on Trapero titles, such as El bonaerense . Only starting in 2005, with Born and Raised , she became a regular actress in her husband’s movies. Since then she has intervened in Leonera (2008), Carancho (2010) and White Elephant (2012), the last two with Ricardo Darín .

Regarding what it is like to work with her own husband, with whom she has had a child, Martina explains that “working with him is truly a pleasure. He’s very creative, brings a lot to the table, and at the same time gives you a lot of space to build the characters. Obviously, it’s not easy to mix the couple with work, but we met that way, in another role —producer and director— that is different from actress and director. But in the creative process, when you have a lot of trust with someone, it’s very nice because you can explore or take out a lot of things. And Pablo, in terms of directing actors, is very clear about what he wants and gives you a fairly large space. So, if you feel confident with what you want to build, he gives you the space so that you can build it.”

The actress assures that she conscientiously prepares her characters, whether it is visiting a jail for Leonera , or the emergency room at a hospital for Carancho . She considers that “That is the grain of sand that I am interested in contributing as an actress: a way of being able to reflect on the different realities that one is experiencing”. On television, Gusman has made some inroads, most notably in the 2010 series Para vestir santos .
