Martha Stewart

Born on October 7, 1922, in Bardwell, Kentucky, Martha Ruth Stewart Shelly –her real name– moved to Brooklyn with her family when she was very young. After graduating from high school, she began working as a singer for a radio station orchestra, until she was noticed by a Hollywood talent scout. She made her film debut in the 1945 musical Doll Face . In another musical, Are You With It?, she starred with Donald O’Connor .
Martha Stewart is remembered above all as a friend of Crawford’s character, in Between love and sin , from 1947, and as the coat check girl, in the place frequented by a movie scriptwriter ( Humphrey Bogart ), in In a place lonely . On Broadway, the actress appeared in “Park Avenue” and “Guys and Dolls”, which were hugely successful.
Divorced from singer Joe E. Lewis, she was together with actors George O’Hanlon and David Shelley, with whom she had three offspring. Her son, blues rock guitarist David Shelley Jr., died of cancer in 2015.
At the beginning of the 50s, he began to intervene less and less on the screen, to dedicate himself to his family. In the 1960s he only appeared on Alfred Hitchcock Presents and a few other television series, before retiring for good in 1965.
