Martha Hyer
The beautiful blonde that moviegoers will remember as William Holden’s girlfriend in “Sabrina” died on May 31, 2014 at her residence in Santa Fe, where she had lived since the mid-80s. Martha Hyer had come to be recognized with a candidacy to the oscars
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Martha Hyer belonged to a family closely linked to Law, since her father was a judge. But she wasn’t into robes, so she studied acting at Northwestern University.
After a season as a stage actress, she signed a contract with RKO, which placed her as a supporting role in films such as Born to Kill , by Robert Wise , or the western Gun Smugglers , by Frank McDonald .
Although he showcased his enormous talent throughout the 1950s in titles such as Billy Wilder ‘s Sabrina , Douglas Sirk ‘s Battle Hymn , and others, he did not achieve stardom, despite some critics having pointed out that she was to be Grace Kelly ‘s replacement as Hollywood’s most desirable blonde. In 1958 she earned an Academy Award nomination for playing a teacher in Vincente Minnelli ‘s Como un torrente . She Snatched It From Wendy Hiller , by Separate Tables .
In the 1960s, she continued to work regularly, as a secondary in films such as The Insatiables , The Four Children of Katie Elder or The Human Pack .
Divorced from Ray Stalh, son of filmmaker John M. Stahl , in 1966 she joined the famous producer Hal Wallis, whom she accompanied until his death in 1986. She had no children with either of them.
