Markus Wheaton is an American football player in the NFL. He played as Wide Receiver and Kick Returner but currently he is not involved in any specific teams or can say, free agent. In addition, the footballer announced his retirement after playing 6 seasons in the NFL in 2019.
Before starting his professional career, he already took a good position on the field during his college studies. So, in the 2013 NFL Draft, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round, 79th overall. But due to his injury issues, he couldn’t play any longer.

The great receiver Wheaton was born on February 7, 1991 as Markus Levonte Wheaton in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He was born as the son of two children of parents Odis and Katrina Wheaton. His father played basketball at Howard Payne University but no information about his mother. He has a brother or a sister; older brother Marquese Wheaton. His brother is also an athlete who currently plays with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a cornerback. Additionally, he is the cousin of Kenny Wheaton, a former Dallas Cowboys defensive back.
Carrier start:
From an early age, while attending high school at Mountain Pointe High School (2005-2007), he started playing football. In that time he had 23 receptions for 476 yards with 6 touchdowns and 49 tackles. Later, he transferred to Chandler High School and joined the school football team. There he recorded 37 receptions for 736 yards and 4 touchdowns. Additionally, he became a three-time All-Region First Team and All-State Honorable Selection. After being named a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, he was ranked no. 41 athletes in the nation.
While at Chandler, he not only got a name but also became a sprinter for the track team. In 2009, Chandler Invitationals also won the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash. And recorded a season best time of 10.81 seconds over 100 meters.
After graduating from high school, he joined Oregon State University. There he played for the Oregon State Beavers football team from 2009 to 2012. During his college career, he recorded 227 receptions for 2,994 yards and 16 touchdowns. Also in 2012, as a senior, he became an All-Pac-12 Conference first-team selection.
Professional career:
His professional football career began when he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2013 NFL Draft. He was drafted in the third round with the 79th overall pick. Later, he signed a 4-year contract for $2.81 million and $591 thousand guaranteed. Wheaton made his debut in September 2013 against the Tennessee Titans. In 2013, he made his first career with 3 catches for 26 yards in 34-27 against the Minnesota Vikings. He played the 2013-2016 season with the Steelers but in his last season he was placed on injured reserve.
On March 10, 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears. After recording just three receptions for 41 yards in 2017, he was released by the Bears. Later, the Philadelphia Eagles took Wheaton and signed a one-year career on May 2, 2018. But on September 12, 2018, Eagles released him.
