Mark Wahlberg
From juvenile delinquent to musical star for teenagers. From underwear model to Oscar-nominated actor. In short, Mark Wahlberg has a life that would make an interesting plot for a movie. Action!
The viewer who has recently fixed Mark Wahlberg on his retina will have him as someone inexpressive, with a scowl and somewhat brusque face. When thinking about a profession, the first thing that comes to mind is policeman and, of course, the good ones. Something that is inevitably curious, since if Wahlberg today is serious and honest knows how to embody law enforcement officers so well, it is because he has dealt with them on countless occasions, and not precisely because he is a model citizen.
Mark was born on June 5, 1971 in a Boston slum. He is the youngest of nine siblings. A large family of Swedish-Irish origin, which broke up when his parents separated from him when he was 11 years old. The parents disowned his children, so Mark and several of his siblings chose to try to earn a living on his behalf. Despite this tough family situation, Mark has a close relationship with his mother, as confirmed by the actor himself. However, a few years ago the lack of his parents led him to the streets of his neighborhood on the wrong path. He dropped out of high school at the age of 14, although years later he managed to graduate from school, and dedicated himself to committing petty crimes and dealing drugs. At the age of 16, he entered prison after being found guilty of robbing two Vietnamese.Donnie Wahlberg . Today Donnie is also an actor, but at that time he was successful with the musical group New Kids On The Block. His influence helped his brother transform into Marky Mark, a bad-boy rapper who became a star with his first album.
Marky Mark had a habit of dropping his pants at his concerts, which drove his teenage fans crazy. This peculiar custom opened the doors to Calvin Klein, who hired him as an underwear model. In the blink of an eye, the image of him in his underwear covered every corner of the United States. They were years of success and controversy. Mark’s image was linked to continuous fights, drug use and other unexemplary attitudes. His bad reputation was on his heels and he began to lower his popularity. He then made the decision to leave the world of fashion and music to try his hand at acting. He dropped his stage name and went back to his original Mark Wahlberg. And as if it were a change of suit,
What did haunt Mark early in his career was his image as a bad boy who drove girls crazy. So he was seduced by his teacher in his debut in The Professor (1993), a troubled friend of the even more troubled Leonardo DiCaprio in Diary of a Rebel (1995) and a sick lover in Obsessive Passion (1996). His first big break was given to him by Paul Thomas Anderson when he turned him into a porn star in Boogie Nights , another tailor-made role as he exhibited heart of palms and a rather unbearable character. So Mark abandoned his bad boy image to start playing the good guy. His first role of this kind was in The Corruptor(1999), where he played a policeman. This work was followed by Three Kings (1999), where his good heart ended up defeating his mischief. He was also the good guy in The Perfect Storm (2000), his first most commercial film, where he lived a real hell with George Clooney . And he was quite the hero in the new version of Planet of the Apes (2001) directed by Tim Burton . These most renowned titles for the general public should not hide two interesting films from Wahlberg’s filmography, since both titles are related to his own life. The first is the thriller The Other Side of Crime(2000), where just out of prison he is tricked by his good friend Joaquin Phoenix to commit a crime again; and the second is the musical drama Rock Star (2001), where he played a rock star overwhelmed by success.
Being a known face to the general public, Mark allowed himself the luxury of turning to the dark side, albeit with powerful excuses to gain the understanding of the respectable. In The Italian Job (2003) he was an endearing white-collar thief, and in Four Brothers (2005) the vigilante who wanted to avenge the death of his mother. Then the police knocked on his door again in the form of Martin Scorsese , who offered him the role of Dignam in The Departed .(2006). His portrayal of this tough, aggressive cop earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Installed again on the side of the law, Mark has spun three titles in which he has been a cop or a government agent. The fearsome Dignam of him gave way to the false culprit he became in Shooter: The Shooter (2007). Likewise, in La noche es nuestra he repeated himself as a policeman and as a man who tries to get Joaquin Phoenix to come to terms, who on this occasion is his brother.
For many, Mark’s serious and expressionless face does not fit into that of a good actor. But the reality is that the future ahead of him could not be more discouraging for the defenders of this opinion. Mark has just starred for M. Night Shyamalan in The Happening , for Peter Jackson in The Lovely Bones , and will become a boxer under Darren Aronofsky in The Fighter. Life smiles at this actor who has managed to put aside a cloudy past and order his life. Family-wise, he has also managed to create a stability that he lacked. He and Rhea Dirham are parents to two boys, ages 4 and 2, whom the actor adores. In fact, the couple is engaged and finalizing the details to get married. In addition, Mark’s life is dominated by religion. He is Catholic and the first thing he does in the morning and the last thing he does every night is to thank God, “it comforts me a lot,” says the renewed Wahlberg. So, apparently, there is no trace of the “bad boy” that marked his youthful years. It’s time to enjoy the new Mark Wahlberg.
