Mark Strong

Brilliant actor of the highest rank, in a short time he has earned a solid reputation for his elaborate supporting roles. He especially embroiders the roles of evil Machiavellian, with a sinister expression. Mark Strong has become a regular presence in the big Hollywood blockbusters, but he still has a lot to say.

Although he was born in the British capital, Marco Giuseppe Salussolia (August 30, 1963) comes as his name suggests from a family of Italian descent, on his father’s side, since his mother was Austrian. When he was little, his mother decided to change his name to Mark Strong, so that he would fit in better at school.

His earliest vocation was law, so he went to study law at the University of Munich. But although she learned to speak German, she was completely disillusioned after the first course, and returned to Britain, to change her studies. She ended up enrolling in English and Drama, at Royal Holloway University, and later in Drama, at the Bristol Old Vic Theater School.

He began to open a gap, based on theatrical productions, and participating in numerous British television series. He played a police inspector in Prime Suspect 3 , and became a popular face in his country, thanks to the series Our Friends in the North and The Long Firm , which were very successful there.

In cinema he began to have secondary roles, but more and more prominent in titles such as Fuera de juego , Más allá del deber (2001) , Oliver Twist (2005) , Tristán + Isolde and Sunshine . But his best asset was his meeting with director Guy Ritchie , who hired him for Revolver , where he nailed the role of a ruthless assassin presented with great humor. Ritchie decided to take him on as a kind of fetish actor, and rehired him for RocknRolla , in which he stood out from the rest of the cast as the lieutenant of a mob boss. Ritchie also made him Lord Blackwood, the clever villain ofSherlock Holmes .

Although Mark Strong has had notable roles in Babylon AD , A Big Day for Them , Good , Stardust and Queen Victoria , moviegoers around the world began to realize that they had to track him down, after Ridley Scott ‘s Web of Lies , where he stole the plans from Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe , with his role as Hani Salaam, polished but threatening head of Jordanian diplomacy. And that Strong was about to say no to the role, because his wife was pregnant; with her he has had two children.

Since then, he has become the fashionable villain in Hollywood, along with Christoph Waltz ( Inglourious Basterds ), and they are the actors who are first offered any role of these characteristics. “Villain roles fascinate me. And besides, they often have the best lines in the script”, says Strong, who has been Godfrey, a terrible bad guy in Robin Hood and also in Kick-Ass. Ready to Smash and Green Lantern . Apart from all this, soon we will see him as one of the protagonists, along with Colin Farrell , in The Way Back , the new Peter Weir film .
