Synopsis
Mark Knopfler is a British songwriter, singer, record producer and guitarist. He is notable as the lead guitarist, songwriter, and lead singer of the rock band Dire Straits. After disbanding the band in 1995, Mark has produced and recorded eight solo albums. Similarly, he has also produced and composed scores for nine films, including The Princess Bride and Wag the Dog.
Early life
Mark Knopfler was born on August 12, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland. He is the son of a Hungarian Jewish father and an English mother. His father was an architect and chess player and his mother is a teacher.
early career
Mark Knopfler attended Gosforth Grammar School and studied journalism for a year at Harlow College, graduating with a degree in English from the University of Leeds. He recorded his first single from him at the age of sixteen, but the song remained unreleased. In 1977, he founded a Dire Straits band and they signed with Vertigo Records in 1978. They recorded the Dire Straits album, which included their main hit songs, such as Sultans of Swings.

In the year 1985, Mark Knopfler along with his band members released their hit album Brothers in Arms, which has sold over thirty million copies to date. Similarly, the band’s most successful collection was released in 1988. After many successful albums, Dire Straits released two more live albums. After the release of the second album, Mark quietly disbanded Dire Straits and launched his solo career.
Just Career
Mark Knopflers first solo album was released in March 1996 called Golden Heart. The same year he recorded guitar for the Ted Christophers Dublane massacre tribute cover, Knocking on Heavens Door. In 2002 Mark performed at four benefit concerts with former Dire Straits Chris White, Danny Cummings, John Illsley and Guy Fletcher. Events also featured The Notting Hillbillies with Brendan Croker and Steve Phillips.
Mark Knopfler released his fifth solo studio album Kill to Get Crimson on September 14, 2007 in Germany, September 18 in the United States, and September 17 in the United Kingdom. Mark also gave an intimate solo concert at London’s Garrick Club in 2009. In 2013, Mark began working on his other studio album again at his British Grove Studies in London. He announced the name of the album as ‘Tracker’ in 2014.
Personal life
Mark Knopfler has been in marital relations three times. First, he married Kathy White, who had been his girlfriend since he was in school. However, they parted ways before Mark moved to London to join Brewers Droop in 1973. Later, in November 1983, he married Lourdes Salomone. The couple was even blessed with twin sons, Joseph and Benji. His two sons are aspiring musicians.
Apparently, the marriage relationship with Salomone ended in 1993. On February 14, 1997, Mark married the British writer and singer Kitty Aldridge, in Barbados. They have two beautiful daughters together.
