She made ’80s audiences laugh with the raucous voice of her character, Police Officer Laverne Hooks, in “Police Academy.” Actress and singer Marion Ramsey passed away on May 7, 2021, at the age of 73. in Los Angeles. “Marion carried with her a kind, penetrating light that instantly filled the room upon her arrival,” said Roger Paul, her manager. “The dimming of light from her is already felt by those who knew her well. She will be missed and always loved.” 

Born in Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), on May 10, 1947, Marion Ramsey began her journey as a Broadway actress, in the productions  Eubie! ,  Grind  and  Hello Dolly . 

Marion  Ramsey began to become known for her work on The Jeffersons  and Cos series , a compilation of sketches where she shared the screen with Bill Cosby . Internationally, she became popular after becoming one of the recruits who aspired to become police officers, after the academy lowered its requirements, due to a lack of students, in Police Academy , from 1984. It was so successful that the producers they exploited the franchise at the rate of one new installment per year, until 1989 ‘s Police Academy 6: City Under Siege. Ramsey reprized his role in all of them.

After the saga concluded, the actress was a special guest in small-screen series such as MacGyver and Sensación de vivir , worked as a voice actress in various animated series, and starred in the horror telefilm Lavalántula and its sequel, Lavalántula 2 . No information about her private life has been disclosed.
