He owes his entire career to the city of Manhattan. She is the granddaughter of one of the most famous American writers, she knew fame at just 16 years of age at the hands of one of the greats. Woody Allen catapulted her to fame with one of her best movies. However, the trajectory of the beautiful actress has not finished taking off at all well.

Mariel Hadley Hemingway was born in California, United States, in 1961. She is the granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway and the daughter of Jack Hemingway, also a writer. She spent part of her teenage years between New York and Los Angeles. Her first contact with the world of cinema was with her sister Margaux in Lipstick: lipstick (1976). Although the film did not receive good reviews, the interpretation of little Mariel was appreciated by the press.

In 1979, she fell in love with Woody Allen in Manhattan when she was only 16 years old. The film, for many the best film by the veteran director, is a true love letter to New York City that tells the story of a television gag writer who, after turning forty and suffering two failed marriages, maintains a relationship with a seventeen year old girl. Everything gets complicated when he falls in love with the lover of his best friend. Her role earned her an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. That final sequence that includes Allen’s declaration of love is memorable.

After his big debut, he worked in several films of little interest: the sports drama  His best mark (1982); Star 80 (1983)  Bob Fosse ‘s last film ; Creator (1985), a romantic comedy where she shares the lead with Peter O’Toole ; and Call to a reporter (1985), a thriller in which the actors Kurt Russell and Andy Garcia accompany the actress.

He participated in 1987 in Superman IV: In Search of Peace , the last installment of the saga starring Christopher Reeve . A year later he had a supporting role in the crime comedy Murder in Beverly Hills , starring a very young Bruce Willis and directed by the always funny Blake Edwards. The actress did not allow herself a moment of rest and that same year she also starred in the lazy Robar el cielo , a film that mixes action and romanticism. She for a while tried her luck on the small screen. She starred in the 36 episodes that make up the Guerra de parejas series as well as the television movie Forbidden Territory (1991), along withBruce Dern and Helen Hunt .

He continued making little-known films such as the terrifying Cursed Moon (1996) or Road of No Return (1997). Woody Allen would raise the level of his filmography again when she gave him a role in Disassembling Harry (1997), a comedy with a great cast and which restored to the actress some popularity that she had lost along the way. She had a brief intervention in Candidate for power in the year 2000, a moment when Hemingway’s fame and prestige were already hanging by a thread.

Since then he has dedicated himself solely to films shot for Canadian or American television, such as First Target (2002) or The Origin of the Zombies (2012); as well as low-budget films, such as Trapped on the Island , an action film released in 2006 whose only hook is the presence of the actress; or her role in 2013 in the failed comedy Man Camp.

In 1984, she married writer-director Stephen Crisman. The marriage ended in 2008. She is the mother of two children. In addition to devoting herself to acting, Mariel has come to write two self-help books.
