Marcia Gay Harden was born on the 14th of August 1959 in La Jolla, California. Her parents are Beverly Harden and Thad Harold Harden, and she has three sisters. While growing up, Marcia Gay’s family frequently moved because of her father’s job; they lived in Japan, Germany, Greece, California, and Maryland.

In 1976, Marcia Gay Harden graduated from Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland. And in 1980, she received a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1988, she received a Master of Fine Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

In 1979, Marcia Gay Harden had her first film role in a student-produced movie at the University of Texas.
