Marc Summers is an American television personality, comedian, television host, director, producer, and actor Double Dare , a Nickelodeon television game show that aired between 1986 and 1988. Returned after decades of others hosting the show Marc returned again as Executive Consultant in 2000. He was then hired as announcer and executive producer for the show’s 2018 reboot alongside host Liza Koshy. Marc had a long history as a television show host – Super Sloppy Double Dare (1989), Couch Potato (1989), WinTuition (2002-2013), Food Network Star (2006-2007) and Ultimate Recipe Showdown(2009) were just part of his portfolio. A large segment of audiences considered his hosting for Unpacked (2002-2015) on Food Network, and executive producer and occasional on the shows Dinner: Impossible (2007-2010) and Restaurant: Impossible (2011-2016), also on Food Network to be his most notable achievements.

Marc has also been a judge on shows Robot Chicken (2011, 2016), Wrapped Up (2014) and Guy’s Grocery Games (2015-2017) and has appeared as himself The Chew Toy (2012-2014), Rachael Ray (2009-2016), Home & Family (2015-2016) and Best Thing I Ever Ate (2009-2016). He also spoke widely about his life and struggled with illnesses, most notably Everything in Its Place: My Trials and Successes with OCD (1999), a VHS box set that later cost him various jobs, and To Your Marc(2017) documented his life, career and friends, and the aftermath of his diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia in 2009.

1. He changed his birth name Berkowitz to the stage name Summers because of media attention in 1977 to serial killer David Berkowitz, known as the Son of Sam or .44 Caliber Killer.
2. Before becoming a television presenter, he worked as a stand-up comedian, radio disc jockey, and magician, and had a brief career in television show production.
3. In 1993, his daughter Meredith appeared as an assistant on the television show Choose Your Brain that Marc was hosting.
4. His mentors were Bob Parker and Wink Martindale, both well-known television presenters in the United States.
5. During the time he hosted the Double Dare game show between 1986 and 1988, his favorite obstacle course was the gum drop.
6. Marc, despite being in the entertainment industry, wasn’t allowed to host a game show for a while until he was 34 years old. That was because the network claimed he needed more experience and other TV host veterans were already actively hosting.
7. He was known for the water fight with Burt Reynolds, a well-known actor who died on September 6, 2018. He escalated into an aggressive pie fight against the Jay Leno Tonight Show in 1994.
8. In 1996, Marc went public with the condition he was suffering from – obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and supported the Freedom From Anxiety organization that deals with behavioral disorders. Despite his OCD, he was able to shake hands, communicate with fans, and focus on events.

In August 2012, he was in a taxi when the car crashed as a passenger in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, leaving Marc with massive injuries to his face. It resulted in many of his bones being broken and he almost lost sight of his left eye. The reason he was seriously injured was the sturdy partition between him and the taxi driver, which he hit head-on at full speed.
10. In 2009 after suffering stomach problems, exploratory surgery revealed that Marc was suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a form of blood cancer. Shortly thereafter he started chemotherapy and he said those 2 years were “brutal”. Luckily, he went into remission in 2016 but mentioned he might need further treatment in April 2018.
