Manchester United to sue Ronaldo and ban him over Piers Morgan interview
  • Manchester United sued Ronaldo over the breach of contract
  • Ronaldo accused United of lacking empathy in the interview

Following claims made by the forward in a recent interview, Manchester United has hired attorneys to sue Cristiano Ronaldo for alleged breach of contract. The club is hoping for a quick resolution to the situation.

Ronaldo almost certainly won’t ever play for United again, and the 37-year-old has reportedly been told not to come back to the team’s Carrington training facility after representing Portugal at the World Cup in Qatar.

In his interview with Piers Morgan on Talk TV, Ronaldo leveled several accusations against United. These included the claims that the club is pressuring him to leave, that senior officials lacked compassion following the death of his infant son in April, that the club’s owners, the Glazer family, do not care about it, and that manager Erik ten Hag does not respect him.

Ronaldo is currently with his national team as they prepare for the World Cup in Qatar, but any faint hopes of him playing for United again now appear to be dead.

United released a short statement on Friday confirming they had ‘initiated appropriate steps in response to the interview.

On Friday a club statement said: “Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview. We will not be making further comments until this process reaches its conclusion.”

According to a story by The Guardian, United is trying to find a quick solution to the problem. Ronaldo reportedly received instructions not to visit the United training facilities again.

Ronaldo accused United of lacking empathy in the interview, the final segment of which aired on Thursday night, in response to the death of his child earlier this year.

In addition, he claimed that since 2009, when he first left the club, the organization had stalled and failed to advance. He claims that the team “betrayed” him and claims that manager Erik ten Hag didn’t treat him with respect.

Ronaldo’s current contract with United is slated to expire in the summer and is thought to be worth about £500,000 a week, but it doesn’t appear probable that he will stay until the end of it.

United was fully unaware that the conversation had been recorded until Piers Morgan made the announcement shortly after the team’s 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

Next Thursday’s World Cup opener between Portugal and Ghana is anticipated to include Ronaldo as the offensive coordinator. Ronaldo has declined to elaborate further on his status at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted he regrets refusing to come on against Tottenham last month, but claimed his three-day suspension was too harsh.

Ronaldo has hit the headlines over the past week after the release of his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Within the controversial sit-down with Morgan, Ronaldo slammed the current state of the club, along with heavily criticizing Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag and former team-mates including Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney, while he also tore into the attitudes of the younger players at the club.

And in the second part of the interview that was aired on Thursday evening, Ronaldo reflected on his highly-controversial decision to refuse to come on as a substitute against Spurs and then walk down the tunnel before the final whistle.

‘Piers I will be honest with you, it’s something that I regret to leave from the stadium,’ Ronaldo said.

‘Probably, or maybe no, I don’t know. It’s difficult to tell you 100 percent but let’s say I regret it, but in the same way, I felt provoked by the coach.

‘Not allowed for me, a coach to put me in three minutes in a game. Sorry, I’m not that kind of player. I know what I can give to teams.

‘Okay, you don’t put me against Manchester City because of respect for your career and you want to put me three minutes against Tottenham. It doesn’t make sense…

‘I think he did it on purpose because, for example, in a national team the other clubs, if the coach wants to put me five minutes, if someone is injured or if they really need me, I will help. But in that way, I felt provoked not only because of that game but before.’
