Author and media commentator Malcolm Nance is best known for his nearly two decades of field experience in counter-terrorism intelligence and combat operations. Previously, he worked as a senior petty officer in the United States Navy specializing in naval cryptology. Nance also served in Afghanistan and Iraq during the war against al Qaeda.

Mr. Malcolm Nance was born on September 20, 1961 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father came from Georgia while his mother is a native of South Carolina. He grew up in Pennsylvania with his five siblings. He completed his education in his hometown.

 

Nance studied at West Catholic Boys School. He studied Spanish, French and Latin in his school days.

Later, he learned other languages, including Russian and Chinese, which were offered for free at South Philadelphia High School. In 2011, Nance earned a Bachelor of Arts from Excelsior College in New York.

Nance began working in the field of civilian intelligence by researching the history of the Soviet Union.

 

Career

In the United States Navy

Malcolm Nance gave twenty long years of his life in the United States Navy. He joined the Navy in 1981 and served until 2001, receiving various military decorations during his service. He worked for various combat, intelligence, and counterterrorism operations while a Navy Specialist in Naval Cryptology.

In addition, Nance was involved in various combat operations, including the 1986 US bombing of Libya, Operation Praying Mantis, the Gulf War, and the Banja Luka, Bosnian air raid.

After nearly 20 years of service in the United States Navy, Malcolm Nance announced his retirement in 2001.as intelligence officer

 

Malcolm established Special Readiness Services International (SRSI) upon his retirement. The company provides support to the US intelligence agency. Nance was reportedly en route to Arlington when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon on September 11.

Nance was the first to arrive at the helipad crash site where he assisted in the rescue of the victims. After the incident, he worked as an intelligence and security contractor in Iraq, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates and North Africa.

As of now, Nance serves as a member of the advisory board of the International Spy Museum in Washington DC.
