Nigerians have taken to different social media platforms to drag The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami for using VPN to access his Twitter account.

It no longer news that the federal government, indefinitely suspended, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

In a statement last Friday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension by his office in Abuja.

The statement, signed by Ministry spokesperson, Segun Adeyemi, cited the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

However, The  Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has been caught accessing Twitter despite the federal government’s ban.

The top government official was caught by social media users after he posted a screenshot of his phone on Facebook to inform Nigerians that he no longer uses Twitter.

“My Twitter account deactivated’ he wrote with a screenshot to show proof.

However, a critical look at the photo by just clicking on it showed that indeed Malami had accessed his Twitter account with the aid of a VPN.

 

The Attorney General was not just caught using a VPN to access his account he was caught using a cryptocurrency app after announcing a ban on cryptocurrency a few months ago.

Recall that  Abubakar Malami had ordered the prosecution of those violating the  Twitter ban.

The directive was is in a statement issued by Umar Jibrilu Gwandu, the media aide of Malami, last Saturday.

Gwandu said Malami directed the office of the public prosecution of the federation (DPPF) to prosecute violators of the ban.

“Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has ordered the prosecution of offenders of the federal government ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria,” he said.

The entire post generated several outrages from Nigerian tweeps and the internet users generally.
