The New Nigeria Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023.

Major General Lagbaja replaces Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.

Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja is a member of 39 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy and was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant on September 19, 1992.

The senior officer has served the Nigerian Army in several capacities and has held several appointments. Until his current appointment as General Officer Commanding 1 Division, he was the General Officer Commanding 82 Division.

He assumed Command on August 8, 2022, as the 39th General Officer Commanding 1 Division prior to his appointment.

Early Life

The new Nigeria Chief of Army Staff, Lagbaja was born in Ilobu, Irepodun Local Government Area, Osun State on 28 February 1968.

He attended Local Authority Teachers College Demonstration School Osogbo between 1973 – 1979.

Lagbaja attended St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo from 1979 – 1984 and also attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan from 1984 to 1986 and obtained West African School Certificate (Advanced Level).

He was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy on 12 September 1987 as a member of the 39th Regular Course.

Lagbaja was commissioned as 2Lt on 19 September 1992 into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.
