Luke Wilson

Luke Wilson is not into serious and conventional cinema, he prefers what is original and light, independent productions and the highest grossing blockbusters. His career seems somewhat crazy and contradictory, and to a large extent it is because he has built it on impulse. Like his brother Owen and his cousin Jack Black, he has an innate talent for comedy. Will it be genetics, education or pure chance?

It would seem that the answer has more to do with genetics. The acting thing came to him innately, by simple personal taste, by the whim of fate: “I was an art history student but what I really liked was cinema. I have never studied acting. It just came out that way.” Blown by the winds of desire and vocation, Luke embarked on a short film with his brother From Him Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson ‘s Weird One . The project was a success and two years later, in 1996, they were premiering a movie of the same name: Bottle Rocket (Thief who robs another thief) .

With this director he would work again in Rushmore Academy and The Tenenbaums , although with more secondary roles than in his debut. Thanks to Anderson, he learned to enjoy small productions, films that focus on characters: “I love explosions and chases, but I think I’m more connected to small projects and comedies.” Along these lines, he has participated in independent works such as The Family Jewel or The Skeleton Twins and in crazy comedies like Legally Blonde . In addition, this concern for the characters was reflected, although without much success, in the only film he has written and directed: A Confidence Cheek .

His career has been built based on intuition and opportunities, and that is why he has participated in such disparate films and of such different quality. For some Charlie’s Angels it has been a mistake, but surely for him it will have been sweet entertainment, a hooliganism. This is the only way to explain the jumps between movies like Wes Anderson’s to things like My Super Ex-Girlfriend or Baby, Forget Me .

He hasn’t achieved the recognition of his brother or his cousin, but Luke Wilson is a man who enjoys his work. Provoking laughter is one of his great goals as an actor, but he has also participated in the odd drama, always of an independent nature, so as not to be pigeonholed in the comedy genre. An attempt, for now, in vain.
