He is remembered as one of the great singer-songwriters in the history of Spain, for his excellent lyrics, and for his special connection with the public. But he was also a painter, writer, poet, filmmaker and even an actor. Luis Eduardo Aute died on April 4, 2020, at the age of 76, in a Madrid hospital. He had been away from the stage for some time, after a heart attack that in 2016 kept him in a coma for months.

Born on September 13, 1943, in Manila (Philippines), Luis Eduardo Aute moved to Spain with his father, a Catalan, and his mother, a Filipina, at the age of eight. After a time in Barcelona, he moved to Madrid, where he would settle permanently. At 16 he was already inaugurating his first painting exhibition. After leaving the School of Surveyors, he moved to Paris, where he was dazzled by French culture, both by the cinematographic ‘nouvelle vague’, and by singer-songwriters such as George Brassens and the Belgian Jacques Brel . He came to work under the orders of film masters Max Ophuls , Jean-Luc Godard and Joseph L. Mankiewicz , during the filming of  Cleopatra .
