American musician Lucinda Williams won her first Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1994. A singer-songwriter of rock, folk, blues, and country music, Williams recorded her first album in 1978. Williams was briefly married to Long Ryders drummer , Greg Sowders, during the 1980s. She married Tom Overby, an executive in Best Buy’s music department, in September 2009. Lucinda Williams was born on January 26, 1953 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, United States. She is an American songwriter, as well as a country, folk, rock and blues singer. She had recorded her first albums between 1978 and 1980. The album was bluesy and traditional country style. The record had received very little attention from the media, radio, or the public.
She is known to work slowly. She had recorded her next album called Sweet Old World after several years. But later, in 1998, she got her biggest hit with Car Wheel on a Gravel Road. The album had a broader scope of fusion songs like rock, country, blues and Americana in a very distinctive style that still manages to maintain consistency and commercial sound.
In 2002 she was also named America’s Best Songwriter by a magazine called TIME.
Williams is the daughter of Miller Williams, a literature professor, amateur pianist, and also a poet. Her parents divorced her in the mid-1960s and her father gained custody of her, her sister, and her younger brother.

Williams had started writing when she was just six years old, and showed an interest at her early age. He learned to play the guitar when he was 12 years old. When he was 17 years old he gave the first live performance in Mexico as part of a duet with his friend Clark Jones, who played the banjo.
Williams, at the age of 20, performed publicly in a genre of folk-rock and country music. She recorded her first album in Mississippi in 1978 called “Ramblin”. This album contained songs from the blues and country genres and her follow-up album Happy Woman Blues, which featured songs of her own choosing. None of her albums were highly praised.
In 1988, another album under his own name was released. The song on this album titled ‘Change the Locks’ gained some attention. Another song called Sweet Old World from the album Chameleon in the year 1992 and it was the best of her as a songwriter in the 1990s. She won the Grammy Award for the song of hers named ‘Best Country Song’ in the year 1994.
His album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road also won a Grammy for Best Country Folk in 1998. He made another album after the success of the album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road for Essence in 2011.
His other albums are World Without Tears, Gentle on my Mind, Little Honey, etc. IN 2007 she had written more than 27 songs for the new album West. In March 2011, she also made an album, Blessed.
In 2012, she participated in a campaign to support a cause for women inspired by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. In 2012 and 2013 she also toured the United States with guitarist Doug Pettibone.
