Viewers remember her as the mother of “Seinfeld” in the 1990s and as the neighbor of “Alf” in the 1980s. Actress Liz Sheridan died five days after her 93rd birthday at her New York home.

Born in New York months before the crash of 1929, Elizabeth Anne Sheridan –her full name– was the daughter of a singer and a pianist. While working as a dancer in New York, she met then-aspiring actor  James Dean , whom she dated for four years. She recalled those years in the book “Dizzy & Jimmy: My Life With James Dean.” After the breakup, she married William T. Dale Wales, a jazz trumpeter with whom she had a daughter.

Liz Sheridan began her acting career very late, in 1977, when she made her debut on the series Kojak , and has since appeared in numerous hit series. She also appeared occasionally in feature films, such as Bob Fosse ‘s Star 80 and Ivan Reitman ‘s Dangerously Together .

Between 1986 and 1990,  Liz Sheridan became popular with her steady role on the series ALF , and later she went on to play Helen Seinfeld, mother of the protagonist of the series Seinfeld . “Liz was always the sweetest, nicest TV mom a child could want. Every time she came on our show, her presence was so nice. Lucky to have met her,” said Jerry Seinfeld , who played the central character.

The films  Play the Game, The Rooneys and Trim brought the full stop to Liz Sheridan ‘s extensive career .
