  1. Be unabashed and apologize to yourself:

In an interview, Terry admitted that he learned to feel embarrassed and overcame the need to please everyone. Throughout his football career, he kept pushing to appear as an alpha male. However, seeing that other players felt completely unhappy to maintain a certain image, he decided that he would just be himself, which changed his mindset for the better.

More self-acceptance eases a ton of unnecessary burden on your mind. It allows you to leave your ego outside the gym, find safety in the numbers you’re lifting, and focus primarily on the form and technique of your lifts. Consequently, massive gains in strength become inevitable over a period of consistent effort.

  1. Mindfully practice wild intensity:

A good workout always has some intensity that pushes you out of your comfort zone, even if just a little each day. However, the intensity of your training should always match your personal fitness goals. Be aware of your physical progress and always be aware of how you intend to use your fitness to improve the quality of life in the future. 

Terry claims that he loves doing CrossFit on weekends. However, as much as he loves intense physical activity, he would never attempt to fight MMA or test his 1 rep at the gym due to the risk of injury. Also, he avoids training for a marathon while preparing for a movie because the physical demands are not right for either of them.

No matter what activity you do, always think carefully about how it will help you in the future. Intense training should make you feel stronger in the coming days. If you feel tired and weak all the time, you need to rethink your diet and exercise principles.

  1. Intermittent fasting:

Terry first learned the concept of intermittent fasting from Randy Couture on the sets of the first hour of the film Consumables and has followed it religiously ever since. While he doesn’t recommend intermittent fasting for young boys, it makes it easier for older people to meet the high calorie needs of the bodybuilding lifestyle.

In an interview with Bodybuilding.com, Crews explains that he uses an 8-hour window to eat 3-4 meals in that time. He doesn’t have his first meal until 2 p.m. At 2 p.m., his first meal of the day is high in protein and vegetables in the form of eggs, bacon, and salad. He ends his day with the largest meal at 10 p.m., which is also the most dense in carbohydrates. Sleeping on the bread overnight keeps him refreshed and energized for his morning workouts and eliminates any hunger pangs or cravings by 2pm the next day. During his fasting period, Terry drinks a lot of green tea, or BCAA.

In summary, Terry recommends pursuing a lifestyle that stands for balance. Go hard and heavy to the gym and invest some time in practicing explosive exercises like power cleans, dead lifts, and squats. However, don’t be afraid to do some cardio, too. 

As important as a man’s image, he should always be athletic and conditioned enough to run in no time. Stop dwelling on dumping and cutting cycles. Most people use bulking as an excuse to overeat and be lazy.

Avoid chasing a specific number on the scale because it might pressure you to get too skinny or too tall just because you want to make it to a certain weight. Finding your ideal weight requires building your self-confidence and experimenting with different concepts related to diet and exercise. Your ideal weight is where you feel your best, most active, energetic self.
