Meet Lina Medina, The Young Mother Who Gave Birth At Age Of 5

Lina Medina is an 87 year-old peruvian woman, who holds the record for the youngest mother in history after  having her first child at the age of five. This was as a result of  her medical condition called precocious puberty.

She was born on the 23rd of September 1933, in Ticrapo, Castrovirreyna Province, Peru. She was one of nine children of her parents, Tiburelo Medina, and Victoria Losea.

When she was five, her parents took her to a hospital in Peru due to her complains of stomach pains and her increasing abdominal size. The doctors originally assumed that she had a tumor but then it was eventually reveled that she was 7 months pregnant.

The doctors however revealed that she was only able to get pregnant due to a medical condition, called precocious puberty, A condition that make a child’s body hits puberty prematurely.

According to past reports, Lina Medina’s breasts were nearly fully developed by the age of four and she started having periods aged three, according to her mother. A medical report also shows that she started menstruating when she was eight months old.

Six weeks after the diagnosis She gave birth to a boy by caesarean section, making her the youngest person in history to give birth to a child. The caesarean birth was necessitated because of  her small pelvis. The surgery was performed by Lozada and Dr Busalleu, with Dr Colareta providing anaesthesia.

Her baby was named Gerardo after the doctor that delivered him. He was raised believing Medina to be his sister before finding out at age 10 that she was his mother.

When Lina Medina was asked to identify the person was responsible for the pregnancy, She was unable to give precise responses. Medics stated that she may may not have known due to her young age when the incident happened

Her father, Tiburelo Medina was arrested after the birth on suspicion of raping her. He strongly denied that he raped his daughter and was later released due to a lack of evidence. Lina’s cousin was also suspected of raping her but due to a lack of evidence, the police could not charge him.

Gerardo grew up healthy but died  in 1979 at the age of 40 from bone marrow disease. Lisa on her own part got married  and had a second son in 1972.
