LiAngelo Robert Ball is an American pro basketball player for the  Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League. . He played basketball at Chino Hills High School in California, winning a state championship as a junior with his brothers Lonzo and LaMelo, who both play in the NBA. He was a three-star recruit and committed to UCLA but didn’t go to college due to a shoplifting incident in China in 2017. Instead, he joined a pro team in Lithuania and later played in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA), a league started by his dad. Early Life

LiAngelo Robert Ball was born on November 24, 1998, in Anaheim, California, U.S. He is the second son of LaVar and Tina Ball, who both used to play college basketball. LaVar, who is 6 feet 6 inches tall, played for Washington State and Cal State Los Angeles. Tina, who is 6 feet tall, also played for Cal State Los Angeles. His father later played professional football as a tight end for the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football.

During his childhood, Ball often played basketball against older kids, even competing against fourth and fifth graders when he was in kindergarten. He began working out and training when he was just four years old and started playing with his brothers, Lonzo and LaMelo when he was six. When he was seven, he also started playing flag football with his brothers.

LiAngelo grew up playing basketball with his brothers on the Big Ballers VXT team, an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) under-17 team that their parents created and coached on the basketball court.

High School Career

In his early high school years, Ball played basketball for Chino Hills High School in California. He played alongside his older brother Lonzo and helped Chino Hills reach the CIF Southern Section Open Division championship game, although they lost in overtime. In his sophomore year, he scored 35 points in a tournament win and 53 points in another game. He had an ankle sprain but returned for the playoffs. After that season, he committed to play college basketball for UCLA.

In his junior year, Ball played with both of his brothers, Lonzo and LaMelo. He scored a lot of points and helped his team win several tournaments, finishing the season undefeated and earning the title of mythical national champion.

In his senior year, Ball had some outstanding games, scoring 56, 72, 65, 60, and 52 points in various matches. He was recognized as the All-Area Player of the Year and led the state of California in scoring.

He later enrolled at UCLA but ran into trouble when he and some teammates got arrested for allegedly stealing sunglasses in China. As a result, the UCLA basketball program suspended him indefinitely, and he decided to withdraw from the university.

Professional Career

In 2018, Ball wasn’t seen as an NBA prospect, but he decided to get ready for the 2018 draft with his dad after leaving UCLA. On December 11, 2017, he signed with Prienai in Lithuania, along with his brother LaMelo, who left Chino Hills before his junior season. American sports media talked a lot about their move to Lithuania. Prienai stopped playing in the Baltic Basketball League and did some exhibition games sponsored by their family’s sports apparel company, Big Baller Brand.

On January 13, 2018, Ball played his first pro game but failed to score any points in a 95–86 loss to Lietkabelis. He made his first start on February 11, scoring 13 points in a 97–95 win over Šiauliai. e achieved his season-high of 28 points with six three-pointers in a loss to Nevėžis. On March 27, 2018, he announced his intention to enter the 2018 NBA draft, despite most experts believing he wouldn’t get picked. On April 19, Ball injured his ankle and left a game against Juventus Utena early. Ball and his family departed from Prienai, with his dad criticizing head coach Virginijus Šeškus. During the LKL season, Ball averaged 12.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.5% from the three-point line. He went undrafted in the 2018 NBA draft.

Los Angeles Ballers (2018)

In 2018, Ball signed with the  Los Angeles Ballers of the Junior Basketball Association, a league his dad started as an alternative to college basketball. He joined in the middle of the season and had a great debut on July 14, scoring 53 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing 10 assists. Ball played well in the JBA All-Star Game and earned co-MVP honors after scoring 39 points. He also won the All-Star Game MVP with 39 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals in a 202–189 victory. In his first playoff game, he scored a season-high 58 points in a 157–134 win over the Philadelphia Ballers.

He matched his season high with 58 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in a Finals victory over the Seattle Ballers on August 12, and he earned the title of Finals MVP. At the end of the season, Ball joined the JBA USA Select Team, which toured and played against several European teams.

In 2019, Ball underwent ankle surgery and missed the NBA Summer League. In December 2019, he signed with the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League as a practice player. On March 9, 2020, he joined the Blue through a waiver claim. The Blue played just one game, which Ball did not participate in before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

In December 2020, Ball signed a training camp contract with the Detroit Pistons but the team waived him on December 13, 2020, without him playing in a pre-season game.

Greensboro Swarm (2021–present)

During the summer of 2021, Ball trained with his brother LaMelo’s team, the Charlotte Hornets, and impressed their staff. He earned a spot on their Summer League team. In his Summer League debut, he made five 3-pointers in 16 minutes. On October 14, 2021, Ball was signed by the Hornets but got waived the next day.

The Greensboro Swarm selected him 14th overall in the 2021 NBA G League draft on October 23, 2021, and he scored 22 points in his G League debut.

In 2022, Ball participated in the NBA Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets. He signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Hornets on September 26, 2022, but they waived him on October 15, 2022.

On October 23, 2022, Ball returned to the  Greensboro Swarm roster for training camp.
