1. Plies helped his older brother Big Gates run an independent music label after he graduated high school, realizing that living on the streets would only lead to jail.
2. Despite his success as a rapper, he never aspired to become one. He first sang a chorus for a single after the original artist didn’t get it right. After hearing the recording, his brother encouraged him to pursue rapping.
3. He took his stage name, Plies, from the slang used for the big money dealers in his hometown.
4. At Fort Myers Senior High School, he played on the high school football team as a receiver and defender.
