Lawrence Dane

Tall and broad-shouldered, he starred in shows like “Bonanza” and appeared as a supporting role in titles like “Bride of Chucky.” Canadian Lawrence Dane passed away on March 21, 2022, at the age of 84, at his residence in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born April 3, 1937 in Masson, Quebec, Lawrence Dane he was the youngest of six children in a Lebanese family. He grew up in Ottawa, where he began taking acting classes to overcome shyness. “I started in the theater, because  I was lucky enough to become a member of a highly respected brotherhood of Canadian artists where I was able to meet and work with hundreds of other struggling fellow actors. They were all an inspiration to me,” the actor stated.

In 1958, pioneering Canadian television producer Frank “Budge” Crawley hired Lawrence Dane as an extra in the television drama RCMP . Two years later, the interpreter left for Toronto to play a young convict in the CBC drama Shadow of a Pale Horse , and in 1965 he settled in Los Angeles to try his luck in Hollywood.

Little by little, Lawrence Dane specialized in villains, in series like  Bonanza, Mannix and The Mod Squad. “If I had been short and angelic, I would have starved. There are only two main parts in any TV show, the hero and the villain. The economics of the environment don’t allow for anything else,” Dane said in a 1976 interview published by Maclean’s magazine .

In cinema, he stood out in Scanners , by David Cronenberg , and in the role of private investigator Lt. Preston in the horror comedy Bride of Chucky , from 1998.

At the end of his career,  Lawrence Dane He starred in several Canadian television series, such as  Street Legal, ENG, La Femme Nikita, and Flashpoint. She also went into production in the 1970s, with titles like  The Rowdyman , the comedy Only God Knows ,  and the 1977 independent film Rituals .
