Lauren Giddings (born April 18, 1984 – died June 26, 2011) was an American law student from Takoma Park, Maryland. In 2011, she made national news after her torso was discovered in the trash near her apartment.
A man named Stephen McDaniel was convicted of the crime. He admitted to strangling and dismembering Lauren in 2014. He was later sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in about 30 years.
On June 25, 2011, the young student was last seen buying food for dinner on her way home. Later, Lauren did not contact any friends or family and many people thought that maybe she was preparing for exams.

The incident took place on June 26, 2011, when McDaniel brutally took the life of an innocent girl for no reason. He also said that he extremely hates women and used to bully girls in his school days.
Police became suspicious of him after Giddings’ torso was discovered in a dumpster outside the Georgia Avenue apartments. This was the place where she and McDaniel were neighbours.
Recently, on October 11, 2019, Stephen McDaniel again requested to open his case for trial, but the judge denied his request. This time the murderer tries to show that the police investigation violated his rights.
He accused them of not informing him of his rights during that period. According to the source, he never went to trial because he pleaded guilty in the spring of 2014. During the inquest session, Stephen confessed to murdering the law student.
