Laura Ziskin
Laura Ziskin made history because she was the first woman to become the head of the Oscars. The veteran producer, with a long career behind her, and considered one of the most important women in Hollywood, died on June 12, 2011 at the age of 61, as a result of breast cancer.
Born on March 3, 1950, in the San Fernando Valley (California), Laura Ellen Ziskin was the daughter of Jay Ziskin, a Jewish writer. She graduated with a degree in Cinematographic Arts from the University of Southern California. She began working in the production department with the film A Star Is Born (1976) and in 1978 she was already associate producer of The Eyes of Laura Mars .
He achieved his greatest success when he produced the film Pretty Woman for Touchstone , which still raises the audience ratings of the Spanish networks in its television broadcasts. She produced the 74th and 79th edition of the Oscars.
In 1994, she became the president of Fox 2000, a position she held for five years, until she became an independent producer, working for Columbia. In that study she developed the Spider-Man saga , whose new installment will become her posthumous film.
Laura Ziskin was also an active organizer of charity galas to raise money for the fight against cancer, through the organization Stand Up to Cancer.
