LASU academic unions suspend strike action
The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of the University of Lagos State University have suspended their strike action.
The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of the University of Lagos State University have suspended their strike action.
Earlier in January, the unions went on a five-day warning strike by the institution’s Joint Action Committee to press their demands.
However, the unions on Thursday suspended their almost one-month strike action over outstanding arrears of minimum wage.
Moreso, activities and examination were on hold after there was a breach of the agreement between the government and the unions.
According to the union, poor funding, non-payment of workers salaries are some of the reasons for going on strike in January.
The Chairman, SSANU-LASU Chapter Saheed Oseni, said that the three unions in the university totally complied with the strike. This, however, in line with the directive of their national bodies.
“Poor funding of our universities, shortfall in payment of staff salaries, increasing corruption in the university system should be addressed,” the union had said in January.
