1. Lars’ first exposure to music was when his father invited 5 of his friends for the Dark Purple concert, but one of them couldn’t make it, so Lars went instead.
2. Aged 10 after watching Dark Purple , he was so mesmerized by their performance that he recently went to buy the band’s album Thunderball .
3. After seeing the concert, he leaned toward music as a career.
4. At the age of 12 or 13 he received his first drum set from his grandfather.
5. He originally intended to become a tennis player like his father and was in fact among the top 10 tennis players of his age group in Denmark. But unfortunately he didn’t manage to make a spot on the 7 man Corona del Mar high school tennis team.
6. He forgot his dream of playing tennis and found a musical console.
7. In one of the interviews, he revealed that the moment he witnessed American hard rock/heavy metal band Y&T he was sure he was the musician.
8. In 1981 he became obsessed with the British heavy metal band Diamond Head after purchasing their debut album Blitz to the Nations . He was so in love with their style of music that he traveled from San Francisco to London to see the band’s live performance at the Woolwich Odeon.
9. After all these obsessions, he placed an ad in a local classifieds newspaper for interested musicians to start a band with. He received a call from fellow Metallica member James Hetfield and both were co-founders of Metallica.
