Lakshmi Mittal was born in Sadulpur, Rajasthan, India, on June 15, 1950, and he has three siblings He attended Shri Daulatram Nopany Vidyalaya in Calcutta, and graduated from St. Xavier’s College, an institution connected to the University of Calcutta, with a B.Com degree with first-class honors.
Career
Mittal brought Trinidad and Tobago’s floundering state-owned steelworks in 1989, turning them profitable within a year. In India, the Mittal family first operated a cold-rolling mill and an alloy steel facility.
They then expanded to incorporate a huge steel mill near Mumbai. Mittal purchased the Irish Steel facility in Cork for IR£1 in 1995, but it shuttered six years later.
In 2003, his LNM Group acquired steel businesses in Romania and Poland. Lakshmi coordinated a successful takeover offer for Arcelor, renaming it ArcelorMittal. In 2021, he passed on the CEO post to his son
