Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reopened the newly rehabilitated Odo Iya Alaro Bridge, aiming to ease persistent gridlocks in the area.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasized the administration’s commitment to adequate traffic management and transportation.
“The rehabilitation aligns with our commitment to ensuring adequate traffic management and ease of transportation,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor urged citizens to protect the infrastructure, warning against removing newly installed manhole covers.
“The newly replaced manholes are now made of fibers and not metals, so this makes it useless to whoever takes it,” Sanwo-Olu explained.
“Let the manholes be, they are there for safety. They are there to protect human beings so that they do not fall off the bridge. Anyone caught removing the manholes from the bridge will be prosecuted,” Sanwo-Olu warned.
The rehabilitation took 54 days, instead of the scheduled 90 days. Sanwo-Olu commended stakeholders, including the Office of Works, Infrastructure, Ministry of Transportation, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, highlighted the project’s significance.
“The project was completed ahead of schedule to ease the suffering of road users in the corridor. The rehabilitation included installing new expansion joints and remedial works, making the bridge motorable and ready for use,” Daramola said.
“The rehabilitation of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge is a significant step towards improving traffic management and transportation in Lagos State,” Daramola added.
