Costs Manolas Actually

  1. During his childhood he played many sports. He was even on the school’s basketball and volleyball teams.
  2. When he started playing soccer with a local team in his hometown at the age of 9, he played as a forward.
  3. In June 2009 he moved to AEK Athens on a three-year contract. He was brought to the club by his uncle Stelios Manolas, the technical director of AEK Athens. Stelios had scouted his nephew at a youth game with AEK manager Dušan Bajević.
  4. In May 2010 he scored his first goal for AEKAthen in a match against Olympiacos. He had broken a jugal bone in the first minute of the game but fought through the pain in the 6th minute and scored. He was eventually substituted in the 15th minute.
  5. He refused to go to the hospital before the end of the game. His uncle and club director Stelios tried to persuade him but was unsuccessful. The next day he had to undergo a 3-hour operation.
  6. At the end of the 2010-2011 season he won the first trophy of his season when his club won the Greek Cup. He also signed a season-ending contract extension to secure his stay at the club until 2014.
  7. When he signed a contract extension with AEK Athens, he was courted by the likes of Wolfsburg, Sevilla and Werder Bremen.
  8. In January 2012, Athens agreed to a transfer deal with Everton, but Manolas turned down the move, believing the team would be left in poor shape with only three central defenders left. As the offer came on deadline, the club are unable to sign a new player.
  9. After his contract with AEK Athens expired, he decided to join Olympiacos in July 2012 and signed a 4-year deal with the club. He won the Greek Superleague and a Greek Cup twice in a row during his stay at the club.
  10. In August 2014, AS Roma paid Olympiacos a fee estimated at €15m to sign Manolas. He was also pursued by Juventus but decided to avoid league winners to join the main club.
  11. In December 2015, he was involved in a heating exchange of ball possession misunderstanding with teammate Miralem Pjanic. It was reported that the fight in the dressing room continued to rage after the end of the UEFA Champions League game against BATE Borisov.
  12. In October 2016, he made his 100th appearance for AS Roma in a 4–1 game against Palermo in a Serie A game.
  13. In May 2017, he got into an argument with teammate Diego Perotti at team training. Her teammates had to intervene to keep the fight from escalating. It also helped that manager Luciano Spalletti sent them to the dressing room to cool off.
  14. In December 2017, he signed a contract extension with AS Roma to extend his stay at the club until 2022. The new deal also increased his release clause to €35m.
  15. In April 2018 he got the opportunity to play Roma for the first team in a Serie A match against SPAL. His team won the away game 3-0.
  16. During the World Cup qualifier against Greece in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he got into a fight with his Roma teammate Edin Dzeko. It turned into a farce after the match as several players and staff got involved in an ugly brawl.
