BIOGRAPHY OF KING DIAMOND

King Diamond, whose real name is Kim Bendix Petersen, is a Danish musician born on June 14, 1956 in the municipality of Hvidovre, a suburb of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

King Diamond’s first heavy rock band was called Brainstorm (1974–76), with Jeanette Blum (Jean Blue) vocals and bass, Michael Frohn (Mike West) guitar and Jes Jacobsen (Jesse James) drums. King Diamond quit Brainstorm and began singing with local Danish hard rock band Black Rose. It was during this time in Black Rose that King Diamond began experimenting with horror-themed theaters and fashioning a malevolent quasi-Satanic stage persona. He left Black Rose and joined the punk-metal group Brats where he met Hank Shermann. Soon after, they were asked to help Michael Denner (also a former Brats member) with his own Danger Zone project. This group included Timi Hansen and the mentioned musicians would join King Diamond in 1980 to become Mercyful Fate.

After Mercyful Fate’s 1984 release of Don’t Break the Oath and the tour that followed, King Diamond parted ways with Mercyful Fate. With him, he takes two of his bandmates (Hansen and Denner) to pursue a solo career under his own name.

Mercyful Fate reunited in 1992, while King Diamond simultaneously pursued his solo career. Mercyful Fate recorded five more studio albums. In 2000, King decided to put Mercyful Fate on hold and pursue his solo career.

In 2001, King Diamond made a deal with the band Usurper to sing backup vocals on the song “Necronemesis” in exchange for them changing their recording schedule to accommodate the recording of Abigail II: The Revenge. In 2004, King Diamond contributed vocals to “Sweet Dreams”, which was the final track on the album of Dave Grohl’s heavy metal side project Probot. In late 2005, King Diamond appeared on the album Roadrunner United – The All-Star Sessions, contributing vocals for its song “In the Fire”, which featured several Roadrunner Records musicians (past and present) working together to create individual songs. King Diamond also participated in the Cradle of Filth song “Devil Woman” in late 2005.

He released his album Give Me Your Soul… Please on June 26, 2007. In August 2008, KING DIAMOND joined Metallica on stage at Ozzfest in Dallas to perform the medley Mercyful Fate made famous by the album Garage, Inc. Additionally, KING DIAMOND was featured alongside Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister as a playable character in Guitar Hero: Metallica in 2009.

In 2012, KING DIAMOND was set to return to the stage for a number of shows. The band’s triumphant return to the stage was the highlight of Hellfest and Sweden Rock festivals in France and Sweden.
