Keyshia Cole is an American singer, songwriter and record producer, entrepreneur and tv personality, best known for her music career which resulted in 7 studio albums between 2005 and 2017. Her career skyrocketed with her debut studio album As It Is (2005), which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 list. Keyshia Cole released her debut studio album titled As It Is on June 21, 2005, consisting of 12 tracks. The album debuted in sixth place on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 89,000 copies in its 1st week. In 2009 the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA and as of 2012 has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide. The single Love The album, which was hailed as her breakthrough single by critics, was released on January 6, 2006. It peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and was certified “Platinum” by the RIAA.

- Her mother was a drug addict and turned to prostitution to support her bad habits which meant she was not present in Keyshia’s life mainly due to the prison time leading to Keyshia being placed in foster care at the age of 2 and later adopted became.
- Keyshia met her biological father in 2016 after a paternity test confirmed it was a boxing trainer named Virgil Hunter.
- Keyshia’s sister, Neffeteria, was rescued by a home intruder in her youth, which later turned her to alcoholism. Keyshia believed her cousin Andre, who was 9 at the time, was forced to watch, leading to him committing suicide due to his trauma.
- Her adoptive mother was a pastor, which deterred her from a life of alcoholism, crime, and despair. She said that God was on the path every step of the way preventing her from making the wrong decision.
- Keyshia met popular rapper MC Hammer when she was 12, a woman born in Oakland, California, just like her. She kept pestering him with phone calls, after which he allowed her to sing backing vocals to his song I’m Just a Kid , although the recording was never released.
