Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey is simply one of the great monsters, possibly the greatest, in today’s cinema. With no apparent effort he masters the most difficult characters, and has such strength on screen that he is capable of bolstering mediocre productions.

The youngest of three brothers, Kevin Spacey Fowler comes from South Orange, New Jersey, where he came into the world on July 26, 1959. His mother was a secretary and his father was an editor, who, due to the needs of his work, constantly moved with his family, until they finally settled in California. As a child, Spacey was quite unruly, to the point that his parents decided to send him to a military academy, although it was no use because he ran away several times from the place and in the end they expelled him.

He began to focus when he was enrolled in a center in the San Fernando Valley where he began to participate in the theater group, where they put him to play Captain Von Trapp, in a performance of “The Sound of Music.” He had found his way, and determined to become a professional actor, he enrolled at the Juilliard School in New York, while acting as a stand-up comedy.

He started with small roles on stage, first as a messenger in William Shakespeare ‘s “Henry VI . ” He then made his Broadway debut in Henrik Ibsen ‘s “Ghosts,” opposite Liv Ullman.

In the mid-1980s, he made his film debut as a briefly appearing subway thief in Run Out of Cake . For many years he limited himself to appearing as a supporting role in titles such as Armas de mujer , Don’t scream at me, I don’t see you , My father or Under another flag .

He began to stand out as John Williamson, the young director of the office where the protagonists of Glengarry Glen Ross (Success at any price) work, a brilliant adaptation of the play by David Mamet , directed by James Foley , where he shared the screen with giants like Al Pacino , Jack Lemmon , Alan Arkin , Ed Harris … He has never left the stage. He received a Tony Award for his portrayal of Uncle Loui in Neil Simon ‘s “Lost in Yonkers . “

Kevin Spacey’s great year is 1995. Then he was the crippled con man Roger Kint, in The Usual Suspects , a cult title that left moviegoers fascinated, and which earned him his first Oscar, for best supporting role. Soon after, he fully established himself as Juan Nadie, the cold-blooded serial killer from Seven . He made it a condition to participate in the film not to appear in the opening credits, so as not to create expectations that would condition the public.

Since that tape, no one disputes that Spacey is a great actor, as he had the opportunity to demonstrate playing the amoral detective Jack Vicennes, in LA Confidential , and with his works in A Time to Kill , Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil , Negotiator , Looking For Richard , Hurlyburly and The Big Shot , among many others. For his intense work as Lester Burnham, a middle-aged father in crisis, in American Beauty , he received another well-deserved Oscar, this time as a leading actor.

Spacey has had time to make his first steps as a filmmaker. After the interesting Alligator Trap , he directed Beyond the Sea , an original film biography of singer Bobby Darin , also played by him.

In recent years he has dedicated himself a lot to the theater, especially after being elected artistic director of the Old Vic theatre, one of the most important in London, where he directs a company that performs eight months a year. Occasionally, he also takes part in productions as an actor.

This dedication hasn’t stopped him from continuing to appear on screen, for which he was the villainous Lex Luthor in Superman Returns , a professor who gambles with a group of students in casinos in 21: Black Jack , and a top executive in Margin Call .

It is known that Kevin Spacey has never been married, but very little else. It has been proposed that nobody know anything about his private life and for the moment he succeeds, alleging professional reasons. “It’s not that he wants to create an aura of mystery, it’s that the less the viewer knows about me, the easier it is for me to convince them that I’m someone else on the screen,” explains the actor. He lives in Los Angeles, and is friends with other screen stars like Steve Martin , Sean Penn or Tom Hanks .
