- While studying at Yale University , he worked as a practice room monitor at the Yale School of Music .
- His musical talent was discovered by his parents when he was 6 months old. They decided to send him to music lessons.
- When he was 4 years old he started learning the piano. He began taking cello lessons at the age of 6 and learned the alto saxophone at the age of 10.
- In his hometown of Owensboro, he was involved in community music programs and was a member of a jazz band, concert band, marching band, and community youth orchestra.
- At age 12, he was selected to be the United States Collegiate Wind Band ‘s principal saxophonist. During the summer he toured Europe with the band for three weeks.
- In his youth he also served as principal cellist with the Kentucky State Youth Orchestra . He also received top honors from the Kentucky Governors School for the Arts .
- After winning at the American Fine Arts Festival , he was invited to perform in the piano trio at Carnegie Hall .
- Scott Hoying contacted him about an opening in his music group. Pentatonix . Hoying was impressed by Kevin’s video Julie-O , which had gone viral on social media.
