Early Life

Nash was born on July 9, 1959, in southwest Detroit, Michigan, to a devout Christian family. Nash’s father, Robert, died of a heart attack on April 4, 1968, when Nash was eight years old, at the age of 36. Wanda Nash, Nash’s mother, died on December 27, 1994, after a four-year battle with breast cancer.

He went to Aquinas High School and the University of Tennessee, where he studied psychology and educational philosophy. Nash played center for the Tennessee Volunteers basketball team at the University of Tennessee. He was a member of the team from 1977 to 1980, when it advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Nash did not play a fourth year for the Volunteers after a physical altercation with head coach Don DeVoe and a series of other on-campus incidents, and he attempted to transfer to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Nash reconsidered his options and relocated to Europe, where he played professionally for several teams. His career was cut short in 1981 when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for the Gießen 46ers in Germany. Nash enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 202nd Military Police Company in Giessen, West Germany after his basketball career ended.

In 1996, Nash established the “New World Order.” He attended the University of Tennessee before transferring to Europe to play professionally. In 1981, he tore his anterior cruciate ligament.

Nash changed his name to Oz as a singles wrestler in 1991. He was a member of the Harley Race and Diamond Dallas stables and worked with Page.

In 1993, he joined the World Wrestling Federation and adopted the alias Diesel. He began by working as a bodyguard for his friend Shawn Michaels.
