Kenneth Wannberg

He worked as an editor for John Williams on numerous films, and is behind the scores for titles like “The Philadelphia Experiment.” Kenneth Wannberg passed away on January 27, 2022, at the age of 91 at his residence in Florence, Oregon.

Born in Los Angeles (California), on June 28, 1930,  Kenneth Wannberg  began studying piano at the age of 12. After military service in the 1950s, he was playing clubs on the East Coast when a friend suggested he apply for a job as a music editor at 20th Century Fox.  His first job, as an assistant editor, was on 1950s musicals. , like The King and I .
Starting in the 1960s,  Kenneth Wannberg began collaborating with John Williams . He edited the music for the first six Star Wars films , the first three Indiana Jones films, and other historical soundtracks.
In addition,  Kenneth Wannberg  signed the scores for titles such as  The Philadelphia Experiment ,  Mess in Rio ,  Go Lose It and Get Lost ,  Of Origin Unknown,  Duel in the Deep ,  Draw ,  Tribute  , and  Cat Meets Killer . 

Spielberg and Lucas inaugurated a chair in “the art of music editing” in Wannberg’s name at the University of Southern California film school in October 2002. As Lucas said of the craft: “This is not flashy or ostentatious. not very expensive, so most people don’t pay attention to it.  But it’s extremely important that we get a good group of future filmmakers who are well-trained in film and music editing.”
