The author of “Spirit” had immense prestige in the animation industry. Kelly Asbury died at the age of 60, on June 26, 2020, after a long battle with abdominal cancer, at her residence in Encino, California.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, on January 15, 1960, Kelly Adam Ashbury (his full name) studied animation and film at the California Institute of the Arts. Upon leaving he entered the ranks of Walt Disney, where he worked in different occupations on titles such as Taron and the Magic Cauldron .

Kelly Asbury was at the forefront, as the filmmaker of five feature films. Spirit. The Indomitable Steed  (2002), Shrek 2 (2004), Gnomeo and Juliet  (2011), Smurfs: The Hidden Village  (2017) and UglyDolls: Extraordinarily Ugly (2019).
